My father was brought to Altru with bleeding on the brain, a concussion, and fractured bones from a fall that was caused by his passing out. To me, 50% of having a nurse who is caring, considerate and looks out for the best interest of the patient is almost as important as the care itself. Katie was concerned that my dad was being sent home the day after having a brain bleed and his ear was still bleeding. She contacted the resident doctor on duty and had her come to my dad's room and the resident then confirmed that he could stay another day. For his family, this was a godsend. We felt he needed more monitoring. Thank you, Katie, you made our dad's stay here that much better.

Katie is an awesome patient advocate. My father is 80 years old and he fell on the highway and suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage. He came into the hospital and was to be discharged the next day. She responded to family concerns about bloody drainage oozing from his ear, double vision, nausea, weakness, lack of appetite and complaints of just not feeling right. She talked with the charge nurse and the intern to voice her concerns about discharging Dad after only one day. As a result of her patient advocacy, Dad stayed in the hospital. The next morning, he vomited and continued with a headache and the doctor ordered another head CT scan and he is doing better.
