Katie was assisting the Trauma Team in removing a bullet from a patient's buttock. He was very nervous for this procedure and Katie asked him what types of things calm him and the patient stated, "Music calms me down". Katie asked him what his favorite song was and sang "Hotel California" by the Eagles while the bullet was removed. Katie showed such compassion for this man's anxiety and went above and beyond to help him feel more at ease. Not many people would sing to a patient without background music or lyrics, but Katie sang the entire song to him. She has great devotion to IMMC Trauma department, as witnessed by the long hours that she works. She always has a smile on her face and takes in the new Trauma interns/residents with open arms. She is a fantastic educator and always makes time to ensure she is not rushing those valuable teaching moments. IMMC is lucky to have her!
