Katie Ellis, RN exemplifies the kind of nurse that patients and families, as well as nurses, physicians, and other members of the health care team recognize as an outstanding role model. As a Team Leader, Katie has embodied the role of mentor to her co-workers with her exceptional grace and professionalism. Katie has routinely gone above and beyond the call of duty when assisting patients to find and schedule same-day appointments with their PCP’s, performing nurse clinic procedures after the nurse clinic has closed, and providing excellent problem-solving skills with patients and staff alike on a daily basis. Katie’s calm demeanor in a crisis situation most often leads to optimal outcomes for our members as well as providing reinforcement to those who work with her. To describe one specific instance of extraordinary caring would only minimize the totality of what Katie provides to Kaiser Permanente’s members and to everyone she comes in contact with. Katie has demonstrated the qualities of fine moral character, caring, and devotion with every interaction she undertakes as a member of Kaiser Permanente’s nursing staff. In the many years Katie has devoted to her career and her patients, she has undoubtedly been an outstanding role model not only to her profession but to humanity as well. If anyone exemplifies the qualities of extraordinary caring and compassion, it would be Katie.  I have found her to be one of the most deserving and underrecognized nurses that I have worked with in my 17 years of nursing.
