Katie cared not only for the patient but for the mother as well. The patient was referred from an OSH for cell collection and transplant. This meant not only was our team new to this family our facility was as well. I think Katie gave a phenomenal first impression! As a typical 3-year-old the child wanted the comfort of the mother. In this situation, the mom continued to hold her son for the 3-hour procedure. Katie continued to offer support to the child but also to Mom. She offered help setting up food, so Mom didn't go hungry. And when she learned she was a nursing mother, Katie, and her coworkers quickly provided Mom a pump and bottles. Katie's care of the patient and Mom made a difficult day go much better. The patient's mother was extremely appreciative of the care provided.
