I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Katie for the past 15 years. Katie is kind, attentive, and very intelligent. She went through the one-year nursing program at UW Oshkosh after completing a microbiology degree. She was then hired into the ICU from nursing school. She has the intelligence, confidence, humility, work ethic, curiosity, and people skills to succeed and be a respected critical care nurse. Katie is a wonderful mentor to nursing students and new nurses. Katie sets the bar high not only for herself but for everyone she works with. She keeps everyone on their toes. She will let you know if you need to be better or if you could work a little harder. Most people are afraid of giving constructive criticism to their colleagues. She will give it to others but will also welcome it herself. Katie’s high standards make us all better nurses. Another one of Katie’s attributes that I value as a long-time colleague is her ability to jump into a crisis with another nurse and know exactly what to do for the patient without being redundant or demeaning to the primary nurse. If she needs to, she will take over, but otherwise, she has the intuition to help manage the situation to achieve the best outcome for the patient with the least amount of time, resources consumed, and, most importantly, the least amount of drama produced.

Thank you, Katie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
