During an inpatient stay for my daughter, Katie exemplified what it means to be a pediatric nurse at Children's Mercy. She treated our daughter with respect and kindness but did so while recognizing our daughter's maturity and incorporated her in some of the decision-making about her care.
Katie was a tremendous advocate for our daughter, being present during the hospitalist's rounds and recommending treatment options for her. During a difficult day, Katie spoke to me outside the hospital room to provide support and understanding of how these days happen and shewas able to provide positive focus points. Finally, after her shift, Katie stopped by our daughter's room to wish her well and let her know she was thinking of our daughter, even after her work day.
