The patient learned his anticipated discharge date was postponed, which meant he would be in the hospital on his birthday and be apart longer from his beloved dog. To boost the young man's spirits, Katie arranged for the hospital's therapy dogs to visit and, on her day off, brought a birthday card to his room.
