A few weeks ago, Katie was driving to get food when she noticed another car driving erratically. The car hit hers and then came to rest on the side of the road. Katie approached the car to exchange information and realized the driver was unresponsive, purple, and his wife in the passenger seat was frantic. Katie helped to get the car door open, helped get the patient on the ground, and assessed him for breathing or a pulse. The 56-year-old male had no pulse, so Katie began CPR. She continued high-quality CPR until EMS arrived, and assisted in getting the patient on the defibrillator and on the way to the ER. She did all of this in her pajamas.

The patient was brought to our ER, and ROSC was achieved; after a week-long stay in ICU, he was discharged and is back home with his family. Katie saved that man's life, and she has been adamant that she does not want anyone to know, even giving only her first name at the scene so she could not be tracked down later.

Thank you, Katie L, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
