Katie was so empathetic and validating, I could feel the care and empathy through the phone, like a hug I desperately needed in that moment.
This may seem like a small encounter or scenario, but it is a great reminder that nurses have the ability to make a huge positive impact in even the smallest interactions.  I found out at my 7-week ultrasound that my pregnancy was not viable, there was no heartbeat or any kind of fetal growth. I was devastated. This was my second round of IVP so the journey to get pregnant was already rough and I just felt defeated. To further complicate things, my fertility clinic is in Hawaii, and I wasn't sure how to go about getting the care I needed (they recommended a D &C). I was very stressed about trying to figure out how I was going to get the care I needed and didn't know where to start. I reached out to my primary care provider's office to help navigate and I was then put in touch with nurse Katie. Katie was so empathetic and validating, I could feel the care and empathy through the phone, like a hug I desperately needed in that moment. In addition, she helped me navigate the next steps quickly, explained everything she was going to do (send the info to another doctor since my PCP was out of the office), and stayed in contact with me to update me throughout the day. I ended up getting a referral to an OB quickly. I am so thankful for the grace and speed that my care was handled with. It took a lot of stress away from a very sad situation for me.
