Katie was one of my beloved son's nurses while at UK. I could not have asked for better hands to guide us and be there for us and our sweet little man. Although our time spent in the NICU was short, just 10 days, Katie was the night nurse who watched over him most nights. Not only did she take excellent care of our sick child, but she also stopped to listen to my concerns as a mother, my husband's concerns as a father and both of his brother's concerns. Katie was there the night we said goodbye to our Handsome R. She says that she has never hugged a patient before, but I am a hugger and she made the concession for our family. She also hugged our son R just before he passed on in this world. Katie has been a part of our family since she cared for R. She is the epitome of what a great nurse is. She has even visited with our family while we have been at UK for other reasons. At that time, she brought candy and hugs and kept telling us things were going to be okay, even though she works on babies primarily, Katie also made a huge impact on our family. I love her dearly and although we met under awful circumstances, I am honored to be friends with Katie McDonald.
