We had a patient that was on bipap 24/7 for over 4 days, very ill, she was still struggling to breath and not getting any better or feeling any comfort, she was tired and made a decision that she wanted to come off the bipap and be able to talk to her son that lives in CO and say goodbye. Katie helped her tremendously thru all of this, talked to her son several times, got the doctors involved, helped make her comfortable, she was able to talk to her son. Katie also talked to the patient's neighbors who were very close with her. Before the patient became non-verbal from the morphine drip she thanked Katie and blessed her and said goodbye.

Katie stayed with the patient, held her hand and was determined that she wouldn't pass away alone. She was going to stay after her 12 hour shift and sit with the patient if she had to. Her neighbors were able to come in, unfortunately her son didn't make it here from CO. Katie did get to leave but when she came back the patient was still here and Katie got to be with her till the end. She passed away during Katie's shift that night.

Katie is an exceptional nurse and all around beautiful person - she is and shows the true meaning of caring/nursing every day. I admire her for just being who she is.
