Katie Post, BSN, RN

I am nominating Katie for the DAISY Award for her passionate care, hard work, effective use of resources even when limited, and her approach to prioritizing patient needs, especially for our vulnerable pediatric patient population with chronic kidney disease. She has gone above and beyond to ensure patients get the care they need as close to home as possible, which matters a lot for these chronic patients. She calls and checks on patients after a no-show. Katie has stepped in to cover pediatric nephrology during nursing shortages. She continues to cover 2 departments with a very busy in basket. She always steps in to help. She is an effective navigator of system procedures, insurance tricks and challenges, and care coordination. One of our patients, J.W., a kidney transplant patient, has had socioeconomic struggles to keep up with her follow-up care. Katie has never given up on that.

On one occasion, when Katie called to remind the patient's caregiver of the appointment and they reported no transportation available, she spent more than an hour to miraculously get her the transportation she needed and kept the caregiver informed. Patient still did not show up. Katie continued to reach out to the patient and involved social work to identify barriers and try to get the patient to her needed care. Katie is the one who always identifies our patients who qualify for Make-A-Wish and fills out the form for them, to get those children the joy they really need. Katie has stepped in so many times to check on my well-being. She truly cares for her teammates. Katie exemplifies what a truly dedicated person who cares about others' well-being looks like. I am honored to work with her and remain grateful for all she does for our small family here at Veterans Square Clinic.
