Katie never let us feel like we were alone there or like we weren't important.
We were at WVU Fairmont medical for 2 days before being transferred to United Hospital Center. My husband has stage 4 bladder cancer and had Flu A and Pneumonia on top of that. He had a critical condition called pancytopenia where all blood levels drop, and he also had a blockage in his GI tract. Katie was with us on the 1st night there. My husband was throwing up from the blockage but it was horrible excessive vomiting and Katie was right there every time we pushed that button or she heard him throwing up or for anything he needed. She always made sure he had his care around the clock no gaps. If he needed meds that weren't ordered she got them ordered quickly she would make sure he had something in the mean time until they were ordered and sent by pharmacy.
She never let us feel like we were alone there or like we weren't important. My husband was one of the sicker patients on the floor so I know she ran herself exhausted making every single one of her patients a priority. I hardly ever seen her sit down. She always made sure my husband got his meds when they were due and never let him be without whatever it was he was asking for to be comfortable. Not only was she a nurse to my husband she took care of me as I was with him 24/7. Always asking is there anything you need. "Can I get you a drink or a blanket." Just very attentive and professional and extremely compassionate. I just know that whoever has Katie as a nurse at United Hospital Center has had a good experience. Thank You Katie for making my husband comfortable and making him a priority and making him feel like a person who had a friend!
