Katie was caring for a patient that unfortunately had a long and complicated stay in the SICU that had lasted several weeks and was extremely physically and emotionally taxing. Katie provided fabulous care to this patient and went above and beyond by bringing the patient outside to enjoy one of the first beautiful days of spring. This was an involved task due to the patient's many tubes and wires. The patient was so excited to be outside after weeks of being in the same hospital room and happily took pictures to send to her family and friends. Katie definitely did not have to do this, in fact, it was rather time-consuming, but she put her patient first and I believe this dedication is what makes her such an excellent nurse.
