Our 2024 DAISY Nurse Leader Award recipient received an astounding 26 nominations! Her nominations highlighted her availability and approachability, as well as her willingness to listen and lead “change in management thinking and morale.” Her staff share that they feel truly valued and respected and appreciate the positive environment that she has created. In reading through her nominations, words that come up frequently include authenticity, humility, and dependability.

One common theme in her nominations was her willingness to jump in wherever needed, whether that be assisting with clerical work, preparing patients for the doctors, or even cleaning bathrooms. Her nominations note her involvement in implementing new policies and procedures and her unwavering support and professionalism. They describe that Katie helps to schedule MAS transportation, contact family members to coordinate care, reviews AVS questions with patients, manage incoming referrals, and aide in completing prior authorization for both medications and neuroimaging. She is also involved in numerous nursing committees.

One nomination discussed the impact that these qualities have on the practice’s success and efficiency. She is described as a constant cheerleader who has gone above and beyond in recognizing her staff, helping to arrange potlucks and themed luncheons, and even sharing her passion for baking.

One nomination stated, “I look at her like a superhero, but she treats us all like equals.” Another nomination shared, “To both staff and patients, Katie is a pillar example of a leader who is down to earth while respecting individual personalities and needs.”
