Katie performs within a range of intellectual and moral virtues to respond clinically, psychosocially, and ethically to her nursing practice.
This nurse has served in the Medical Surgical unit as a clinical leader for the 5 years that I have known her. Several of her peers over these years have remarked about her “generous-minded” caring for them, and how essential she has been to so many because of her mentoring skills. Citing her “empathetic maturity”, one staff member noted her ability to understand the personhood of another- be they peers, patients, family, or caregivers. She performs within a range of intellectual and moral virtues to respond clinically, psychosocially, and ethically to her nursing practice. A peer remarked, “She seems to know herself through others”. I saw firsthand how with caring and courage she managed the unit and staff through the complexities AND subtleties during the early COVID days. “Professional generosity” is a term that more recently has illustrated a deep connection within a professional nurse manner. It evokes a spirit of “willingness” to share one’s talents with others, to make it the best it can be. This is, this Nurse, taking the time, the caring, the giving to contribute to the betterment of her patients and families and her peers.
