Katie is one of the most empathetic, compassionate and passionate nurses I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She is the PACU's cheerleader. Walks in with a smile on her face that is still there when she leaves no matter how hard the day was. She not only is an amazing team player and mood elevator for her fellow staff, but she is always giving her absolute best care to the kids and families we care for. Katie goes above and beyond for her patients and families. An example of her excellence; Katie had a patient who was the victim of violence and bullying. When the patient's mother came into the PACU she was overcome with so many emotions, one of which was fear. This mother was so scared for her daughter as she had to go through surgery but also that her other daughter would soon be harmed by violence and bullying. The mother had found a threat towards her other daughter on social media. Katie not only comforted the patient and mother and offered complete support and resources, she went one step further and helped the mother contact the appropriate authorities to report the threat. Although I was not with them at the time Katie helped her find whom to contact, I can only imagine the gratitude this mother had for Katie. This moved me so much given the amount of violence we see in our world and community. Every act against these forces is a hopeful step in the right direction.
Katie is an active member of the PACU Partnership Council. She is committed to the professional development of both herself and her peers. Katie often partners with Anesthesia providers to gain a better understanding of current practice changes and educates her colleagues to improve the care of the patients in the PACU. Katie's greatest quality is her commitment to providing the best and safest care to both her patients and their families. Katie's bedside approach and kindness towards her patients and families make her stand out. Katie works with the family to quickly identify the child's needs and utilizes her seasoned skills and critical thinking to deliver the highest level of care. Katie consistently provides them with a sense of reassurance and compassion. Katie's commitment to the CHW mission of the Healthiest Kids in Wisconsin make her a true DAISY Nurse.
