I used to teach nursing students, and I remember saying to one, in particular, many years ago, "I hope if I ever need a nurse, it will be you." I had no idea where Katie had moved on to but I was miraculously surprised to get the blessed joy of having her as my dad's nurse for his final hours. We had no idea what we were in for that night, and thankfully dad had a quick, comfortable parting. I cannot describe the comfort I had knowing Katie was there. She made sure we had warm blankets, pillows and everything we needed for the unexpected evening. Her expertise at her profession, her kind, loving heart, and her overall presence was such a blessing. I knew she was placed there that evening to not only take care of dad but to take care of me.
Thank you so much, Katie, I know when I have a rough day teaching, I always think, "If I have touched SOMEONE, it was worth it." Well, Katie, today that person you reached was me, and if you ever wondered if you are in the right place, you were that night. And I know I was teaching at just the right time to prepare me for meeting you and going through this. There is a plan, thank you for following it.
