Katie demonstrated excellent nursing care and supportive services to an assault victim. Katie was asked by another staff member to assist with triage. The patient felt supported by Katie and disclosed information which Katie was able to alert social work for support. Due to Katie's hard work and partnership, the patient allowed medical staff to complete an examination and give her medication. The patient presented with psychiatric needs and Katie maintained professionalism and patience throughout to meet the girl's needs.
Katie remained with the patient until she was transferred to a medical floor. Katie demonstrated partnership with medical staff, social work, and the police department. Due to Katie's triage skills and ability to connect with the patient, the patient was kept safe and was able to receive the appropriate social services, mental health, and legal services.
