Katie Whitfield, RN

Katie is a coworker at Greenville Ob/Gyn. She is a compassionate, caring nurse, and she has shown this many times over the years with our patients and coworkers. This particular incident I believe goes so very far above and beyond the "call of duty" I felt compelled to nominate her. Katie was working at our 2 Memorial Medical Drive- Greenville, SC location, and she and the provider she works with had a procedure on a Friday afternoon. This is almost always a very straightforward procedure, but unfortunately this particular patient had an issue with bleeding during the procedure. The provider was able to get the bleeding "slowed down" but decided it was best for the patient to receive more help than the outpatient facility could provide. At this time, she had Katie call 911 and get an ambulance to take the patient to the ER for further evaluation and treatment. The patient had a family member with her and a dog in the car. The family member had to take the dog elsewhere, and Katie volunteered to accompany the patient to the ER until the family member could return. This incident occurred at the end of the workday, so Katie proceeded to "clock out," then drove to the ER to provide moral support while the patient was seen and treated until the family member could return. By the time she was transported to the ER, the bleeding was at a minimum, and the patient was very stable and would have been perfectly fine on her own, but Katie, being the compassionate individual that she is, stayed until the family member could return and be with the patient. Katie took her own personal time to be a good steward to this patient. She saw someone who needed help, and she made sure that need was met. Most of us would have just said-Oh she'll be ok- and went about our Friday afternoon without another thought- not Katie! This is just a perfect example of her selfless nature
