This was a particularly busy day in the ED. While providing care to a patient who was quite uncomfortable with the care provided, Katie made the care much more comfortable by singing to the patient and playing music, to which the patient forgot about what was going on and began to sing along with the music and Katie. Fast forward a few hours, to a very difficult pediatric patient to which Katie continually assisted the primary nurse and family. Anything that was needed, she was always right there. Right before this patient was to be airlifted to a higher-level facility, Katie asked everyone to stop and say a prayer, which you could tell meant everything to this patient's parents who were scared and devastated by what was going on. She hugged the family, reassured them and in that moment provided them with just what they needed. In the darkest of moments, Katie is always the sunshine. She is an amazing nurse, and we are lucky to be able to work alongside her.
