I saw Katlin as an angel during my stay.
During my stay at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, I met many nurses that took wonderful care of me. They were very attentive to my needs and I was very appreciative of each and every one of them. I would like to nominate one RN for the DAISY Award for reasons I will explain. The RN I would like to nominate is Katlin Azarovitz. She displayed every characteristic consistent with what this award is about.
My reason for being hospitalized at St. Joseph Mercy was due to abscesses growing in my back after surgery in June of 2018. Due to the enormous amount of infection found in my spinal area, it was determined that a Wound VAC was the best procedure to enhance proper healing. One day, Dr. V came to the room to change the Wound VAC dressing. Katlin was on duty and entered the room at the onset of the Wound VAC sponge change out. I have never experienced anything like this procedure and didn't know what to expect. Well, I can tell you it was extremely unpleasant and painful. This is where Katlin displayed her true care and compassion. During the procedure, Katlin stood by my side rubbing my arm and talking me through it. She kept telling me I was doing great and that it wouldn't take long. She asked the doctor if IV pain medication would be appropriate to assist with the painful procedure to which he said, it was. Katlin administered the amount recommended by the doctor and stayed by my side continuously talking to me which helped me so much throughout the procedure. Once the procedure was complete and the doctor and his staff left my room, Katlin came back and sat with me for a moment. She told me that I did a very good job handling the pain of the procedure as she knew the wound was deep and painful. Katlin talked to me for that little while comforting me which assisted in calming me down and reducing the anxiety I felt.
Every time Katlin came to my room to administer medication, or to just see how I was doing and if I needed anything, I felt comfortable knowing I was in very capable and caring hands. She always took time to check on me and keep me focused on healing and maintaining a good attitude. Katlin was able to answer any question I posed to her and if she wasn't sure she came back with the answer. I saw Katlin as an angel during my stay. I'm not minimizing any of the other nurses that tended to me during my stay, but I have to emphasize Katlin for her dedication and compassion to my wellbeing and mental strength throughout my stay, especially during the very painful wound vac dressing change. For these reasons, I would like to nominate Katlin Azarovitz for the DAISY Award. I truly feel she is an asset to the St. Joseph Mercy team, is well-deserving of this Award, and displayed every characteristic consistent with the requirements for this prestigious award.
