August 2026 Honoree
Katlin Dolan, BSN, RN
Katlin Dolan is one of the most caring, selfless, and dedicated people I have the privilege of knowing and working with. She consistently demonstrated these qualities every day at work, but one particular experience highlights the extraordinary compassion she brings to her role as a nurse.
Recently, one of Katlin's patients was admitted to hospice and was nearing the end of her life. The patient had a large, close-knit family, including a daughter who was enrolled in Georgian Court University's nursing program and preparing for graduation. Coincidentally, Katlin is also a graduate of GCU's nursing program. The daughter had hoped her mother would be able to attend her pinning ceremony, but as her condition declined, it became evident that she would likely not survive long enough to be there.
Determined to help, Katlin contacted the head of the nursing program and explained the situation. Together with many members of our staff, Georgian Court University, and the patient's family, Katlin helped organize a meaningful and emotional pinning ceremony at the patient's bedside. This allowed the daughter to receive her nursing pin while her mother was present for this important milestone. Katlin was able to relate to the patient's daughter more than some people may have realized, which makes the story even more moving. Right before starting nursing school, Katlin had lost her own mother due to a terminal illness. Understanding firsthand how much it would mean for a mother to be present during such a significant milestone, Katlin went above and beyond to make it possible and give the daughter an opportunity that she did not receive herself.
Katlin's actions exemplify the very essence of nursing: compassion, advocacy, and selflessness. She created a memory that this family will cherish forever and provided comfort during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Her kindness, empathy, and unwavering dedication to her patients and their loved ones make her an exceptional DAISY Nurse!
