My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Katlyn during my pregnancy and, critically, during labor and delivery of our first child in the autumn of 2019. Based on our experience, we believe she strongly exemplifies a true DAISY Nurse.
During my pregnancy, we opted to take the recommended classes for new parents, including the all-day Saturday class on preparing for childbirth. Katlyn was our instructor for the day, and she did a phenomenal job leading the class, answering our many questions and leaving us feeling ready, excited and prepared for the delivery of our son. Although she could have simply run through the basics of the class, Katlyn chose to put in the extra effort to make it fun and informative, thus working to serve the community to prepare soon-to-be parents for a truly life-changing experience.
During labor, Katlyn was certainly courageous and did everything she could to do the right thing for me without question. Looking back, I marvel at her ability to stay calm and compassionate through labor and delivery. Her commitment to ensuring my husband and I stayed informed through even the most difficult parts of labor was impressive! Whenever she came into our room, I felt a huge sense of relief knowing that she was there, because I trusted her to listen and help us make the best decisions for us.
For instance, although I wanted a natural birthing experience, I ended up asking for an epidural. Katlyn swiftly informed the anesthesiologist, immediately came back to let me know I was next and got everything set up for him to administer the medication. Although I progressed quite a bit faster than expected and there wasn't time for the anesthesiologist to come, I honestly believe that her quick reaction helped me mentally get through the worst contractions (and I was able to have a natural birthing experience in the end!).
Katlyn's dedication to her career almost certainly requires a sense of curiosity in pursuit of excellence. During the class, she encouraged us to ask questions, learn more and get interested in childbirth. Based on her own enthusiasm and personal interest in getting us and the other parents excited about the process, it's clear she possesses a strong inquisitive nature about her work.
Katlyn stood out as an exceptional nurse. Her skills and compassion for her career and her patients are admirable and she was instrumental in making our first birth experience an enjoyable and joyous occasion.
