Katrena has dedicated her career as a nurse to Mercy. She’s always stayed positive and is such a caring person with a strong root in her faith. This faith and caring is what makes her so special, and it really shined last night with a very hard situation on our floor, the loss of a new life cut short due to extreme prematurity. The very hard decision was made by the parents to stop life-saving measures, and they really wanted a prayer for this little one and for them before the baby passed. Our pastoral care person was en route but wasn’t going to get here in time. Katrena knelt down with the mother, who was holding her little one, and gave the most beautiful prayer for the baby and family. This small token of kindness was greatly appreciated and helped ease a small amount of the pain and suffering the family was enduring during this very difficult time. We are incredibly lucky she is a part of our team, and we should all be thankful for her more than 20 years of service.
