Katrina pulled a stool and computer right outside our room, which was so comforting.
My mother was admitted to Baptist due to complications from COVID. She had to be put on a ventilator in the ER, eventually getting a bed in the ICU. My sister was allowed to stay with her in the ICU due to her worsening condition. When mom's heart went into a-fib, I drove from Mississippi to see my mother. That night, we met our nurse, Katrina.
When she came to assess Mother, she explained everything she was doing. She answered our questions, explaining in detail what was happening. She offered and brought us blankets, ice, water, and even toothbrushes/paste. When we wanted to nap a little, she even said that she would come to wake us up if her numbers made a change. She graciously listened to our stories of our mom, who was also a nurse.
When mom's condition seemed to deteriorate, I asked her if she would stay close. Katrina pulled a stool and computer right outside our room, which was so comforting. When her shift came to an end, she came in to tell us what an honor it was to take care of mom. We did not want her to leave, and even asked when she worked next.
