Katrina goes above and beyond in her nursing responsibilities. She is one of the most educated, compassionate and caring nurses. In particular, in her care of the post-mastectomy patients she has created educational materials and takes so much time to make sure the patients feel informed, comfortable and at ease. In her care of terminally ill cancer patients, Katrina provides unbelievable comfort care for patients and family members. She is always available to help other nurses in need and is a wonderful teacher. She is an amazing role model.
There are many examples of what an extraordinary nurse Katrina is. Most recently, during a rapid response on our unit, there were many concerned and panicked family members of Katrina's patient. Katrina took such care with each and every family member. Her explanations and amazing care helped to calm down the family members and provide emotional comfort to everyone.
I have watched her hold so many patients' hands as they cry and watched the patients' gratitude and sense of calm and comfort because of Katrina. Katrina has a unique skill in helping patent and family members deal with the most painful and traumatic times of their lives. She is truly a beacon of hope and a nursing leader.
Patient care is her #1 priority and she will advocate as much as possible for every patient of hers and even patients who are not under her direct care. She has taught me so much about nursing care, compassion, sensitivity, warmth and leadership. Our unit, all of our patients and family members/friends of patients and ever nurse on the unit is lucky to have!! Katrina exemplifies the DAISY Award and she is consistently exceptional. Although she never asks for any recognition or credit above and beyond work, she deserves so much appreciation and this award!! She is an angel of a nurse!!
