Katrina, Charge Nurse, exudes compassion and patient advocacy on a regular basis, but one particular situation really showed her dedication to patient care. Recently a patient that lived in Post was being discharged. Prior to discharge, the patient was started on tube feeds. Discharge orders were written for the patient including the tube feedings and education last minute with little time to allow the patient to get acclimated to this change. He did not have the time to learn how to administer the tube feeds himself and needed a home health nurse to come teach him at home. Unfortunately, the patient did not have funding to allow him to have someone come to his home and provide the necessary education.
Trina Redden was working that day and off the next. She had plans to travel out of town that evening. She was concerned that this patient did not have the ability to have anyone come to his home so she agreed to stop at his house on her way through Post and give him the education he needed. Trina obtained the proper materials for the education, got off work, went home to finish packing and made it to the patient's home in Post around 2100. Trina did not ask to be paid for this assistance; she did it out of her own will and time.
