February 2026 Honoree
Katrina Sherfield, BSN RN
Katrina was triaging patients in the ED. During that time, she realized a sick patient who was waiting had gone missing and left her personal belongings behind. Katrina and the ED Tech P instantly started to search for her. The patient was nowhere to be found. Her belongings were collected for safekeeping. Katrina followed her instincts and notified ED staff, security, and Jeff PD about the situation and her concerns. If you had the honor of working with this nurse, you would know she has a heart of gold. P went above and beyond and found the patient wandering outside barefoot in the cold and was able to safely redirect her to return. The patient was returned to the ER safe and started receiving care immediately. Thankfully, this ED Nurse and Tech did not hesitate and were adamant about this patient's well-being. Not turning a blind eye made such a huge impact. Overall, this patient was a victim of sex trafficking and, with such prompt care, was able to receive the help she needed to remain safe. This was truly an amazing story to witness and should inspire others to put people first! Also, an example of how the smallest situations can become so meaningful.
Thank you, Katrina, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
