An elderly woman who had dementia came into our ER from a distant nursing home. The patient came through the doors screaming and hollering loudly. Katy Lane went to the patient's room and began to comfort her by stroking her forehead and hair and by patting on her hand and speaking to her softly, "You're okay. Everything is going to be okay. We're going to take care of you". The patient calmed down. This was nursing at its finest. Healing, teaching, and preaching. Thank you, Katy Lane, for being an extraordinary nurse.
