Katy's willingness to help our team made a meaningful difference in the safety and well-being of our babies!
Katy floated to our unit one busy night and showed exceptional teamwork, compassion, and willingness to step up without hesitation. Even with her own assignment, she immediately stepped in to support our team when we had babies that needed urgent care. One infant was admitted to an MBU nurse who was experiencing respiratory distress issues. Katy came without hesitation to assist and assess the baby, and performed a deep suctioning on the baby, which helped improve her condition. The parents and the primary RN were all grateful for her actions and for handling the situation calmly.
Later in the shift, another baby was admitted to another RN, who came up severely hypothermic and needed blood cultures drawn due to several maternal risk factors for infection. Typically, MBU calls NICU to come draw cultures, but Katy happily stepped in to grab the supplies and obtain the cultures. She did all this without a single complaint and with a genuinely positive attitude. Her actions and support during her MBU float shift exemplify what nursing is all about. Stepping in, supporting one another, and putting patients first, especially our smallest and most vulnerable patients! Katy's willingness to help our team made a meaningful difference in the safety and well-being of our babies!
