February 2024 Honoree
Katy VanNostrand, RN, BSN
I had to get a surprise surgery that was quite stressful, and I was feeling pretty awful after the surgery. My blood pressure dropped very low, and I was scared. Katy brought so much kindness and humor to the situation and went above and beyond to keep bringing things to help me feel better.
I had to come back for another surgery. Katy remembered me. She said, "I remember you. You were the one that was very hypotensive. I’ll make sure that it’s in your notes and that the other nurses know." It was so incredibly lovely to know that there was someone that I could trust who was advocating for me without me even having to ask. After I got out of surgery, Katy was gone, but the other nurses who were helping me had gotten her note and were taking the concerns seriously. Katy also said to my partner, "I remember she didn’t like the snacks here last time, so you should bring her some better ones this time." I can’t really express how much it meant that she remembered the small details and made us feel cared for. Katy is such a special human.

Thank you, Katy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
