September 2018 Honoree
kavitha thomas, BSN, RN
My dad was moved from 4 Heart to Restorative Care. That evening he met Kavitha. He was nervous about being at Restorative Care because he had never had any extended care at this type of facility. He didn't hear well and he couldn't understand Kavitha's accent. Kavitha was his nurse many nights during his stay and together they learned how to understand each other and communicate well.
My dad said Kavitha is a "real nurse." He said she was professional and "by the book." She had a gentle nature. She was the first person in his entire stay that offered to soak his foot (which had a wound on it). She cleaned between each toe, dried them, and put the dressing back on. My dad was very appreciative of this. Whenever Kavitha was his nurse at night, he knew he would be taken care of and if he needed something during the night, she would help him. As his daughter, it is comforting to hear that my dad felt cared for and felt safe at night while I was away. My dad asked me to write this to honor Kavitha for the extraordinary care she provided to him. She is very worthy of the DAISY Award.

Thank you, Kavitha, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
