Kay Bilse, registered nurse specializing in wound and ostomy care at Luther Midelfort Northland in Barron, has been chosen as a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Bilse was nominated by a nurse practitioner at Luther Midelfort Northland, for the care provided to an elderly patient of his who had fallen and received a large skin tear, making her at high risk for infection. Kay found time to see the patient, treat and dress the wound. The patient and her family were very appreciative of the caring and expert care received from Kay. The patient was accompanied by her two daughters who were very worried, but by the time they saw Kay take care of the arm wound, they were very relaxed, talkative and appreciative. "I am in awe," said Bilse, following the ceremony. "I feel blessed to work for Luther Midelfort Northland and receive such an honor. I plan to pay it forward."
