May 2019 Honoree
kay watkins, DNP, RN
Dr. Watkins is always ready to pitch in and help. She sits on the BSN Curriculum Committee and has come in multiple times at 6am this school year to attend meetings. When we had faculty leave, Dr. Watkins volunteered to teach Care of Individuals III in addition to Care of Individuals II. Both of these courses involve not only lecture, but coordinating 4-6 clinical groups of 10 students each and completing the required paperwork to get them into the hospitals for their hands on experiences. Dr. Watkins comes in early and stays late to ensure the paperwork is completed and submitted early. Dr. Watkins has actively mentored 2 of the newer nursing faculty this school year. Students drop by to talk to Dr. Watkins and ask her advice even if she is not their advisor. I personally have witnessed students who have graduated come back to speak with Dr. Watkins and tell her how much her instruction has assisted them in their RN positions. They also ask her advice on future education and career moves as well as asking for recommendation letters required for graduate school.
Thank you, Kay, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
