Kaycee was present with a family at the end of the life of their daughter. She handled the situation with the utmost grace, compassion, and kindness. Losing a patient is never easy. Especially in our department. This family made one of the most difficult decisions that a parent can make. They decided to withdraw care from their child.
Kaycee was with them through the end of life decision-making process, she coordinated palliative care, chaplains, child life, the intensivist, and family. She made the end of her patient's life beautiful. Our staff will be forever touched by the grace in which this family handled the situation. I believe that Kaycee was a big part of allowing her patient to die with dignity. The support and love she showed this family will never be forgotten by them or her coworkers. She's always been a special person, but it's amazing to see how much she's grown as a nurse.
