June 2026 Honoree
Kayla Baumann, RN
It’s truly hard to put into words just how important Kayla B. was to me during one of the most intense and meaningful experiences of my life. She came on shift after I had already been laboring for about six hours, and from the moment she walked in, I felt an immediate sense of comfort and trust. Her demeanor was perfect for me: kind, genuine, fun, and fully present. She encouraged me every step of the way as my labor progressed smoothly, helping me stay calm, confident, and even joyful.
When things suddenly changed after my water broke, Kayla quickly recognized that my baby was in distress. What stood out most was how she handled that moment – with urgency, but without fear. She calmly brought in the OB to assess the situation, and together they communicated clearly and honestly with me. I was overwhelmed and scared, but I fully trusted Kayla and Dr. Heafner. I felt very supported and informed when I made the decision to proceed with a C-section.
Everything moved quickly, and thanks to Kayla and the care team, the surgery was successful, and both my baby and I were healthy. After delivery, Kayla came right back to care for us afterward. She stayed incredibly sweet, attentive, and encouraging during those first precious moments. By the time her shift ended, I felt genuinely emotional saying goodbye – it felt like I was losing a close friend, even though we had only spent about 12 hours together.
Kayla is an extraordinary nurse – Aurora BayCare Medical Center is lucky to have her! The impact she had on my experience is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
