Another nurse was assigned to the patient and noted that the child's mother was sleeping. When Kayla attempted to waken the mother, she noted the mother had altered mental status and was having difficulty speaking which was markedly different from the mother's behavior on the prior day. A rapid response was called by Kayla. Mother's glucose was noted to be 24. The mother was transported to the ED for further medical care. Kayla stayed with the mother to ensure that she was comfortable before going back to her child.
