I am honored to recognize Brittany and Kayla for their extraordinary dedication, quick thinking, and heroic actions in saving a patient's life.

While caring for a patient in the ICU who had been admitted with a pulmonary embolism, Brittany and Kayla took the patient for a walk as part of her treatment and recovery process. During the walk, the patient suddenly became dizzy. Kayla immediately recognized the situation and held the patient against the wall to prevent her from falling, while Brittany ran to get a chair.

As soon as they got the patient into the chair, they immediately recognized a critical change: she had stopped breathing and was pulseless. Without hesitation, Brittany and Kayla sprang into action. They initiated CPR right there in the recliner chair while simultaneously calling for help.

Despite the high stakes and urgency of the moment, they remained calm, demonstrating remarkable leadership and clinical expertise while keeping those around them focused and grounded.

Thanks to their swift and decisive actions, the patient quickly obtained ROSC and was given TPA. Incredibly, by that evening, the patient was sitting up in bed, talking with her family, and eating dinner.

Because of Brittany and Kayla’s immediate response and exceptional nursing skills, this patient was discharged from the ICU without neurological deficits. She was able to return home and resume her normal life, an outcome that would not have been possible without their heroic efforts.

Brittany and Kayla exemplify what it means to be extraordinary nurses. Their ability to act under pressure, their compassion, and their unwavering dedication to their patients make them truly deserving of this recognition. It is because of nurses like them that lives are saved, and families are given more time with their loved ones.
