Kayla Hayes provides a calming voice during stressful situations, she is professional while facing the most difficult of situations, and is frequently looking for ways to improve the quality of care for our patients.
Kayla is extraordinarily professional in her approach to all situations. She has been faced with a number of difficult dilemmas, and handled them with great poise. Kayla was involved with a large influx of patients that were transferred in a very short period of time. She followed Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and ensured that the most critical situations were taken care of first, while at the same time, communicating with each patient and nurse that was impacted, helping them stay calm in the midst of "a storm".
Kayla is a role model for everyone on the team. She helps create an environment that supports the freedom for nurses to learn. At the same time Kayla is looked to as an example of how a nurse should not only interact with our patients, but also demonstrates what team work is all about. Kayla understands the need to apply evidence based research into our practice. She also embraces new nurses and nursing students alike, to help them understand the application of nursing practice.
Recently, Kayla noted that we had a very upset patient on the floor. This particular patient was very demanding and for a very particular regimen to be applied during her stay with us. Kayla understood that the patient's behavior was the patient's way of coping with losing control. Kayla was very kind to the patient, and showed her nothing but compassion and respect. Moreover, Kayla provided insight to her team mates, helping them implement strategies to deal with the situation in a peaceful way. The patient was very pleased by the care that Kayla provided her. So much so, that she wrote a letter commending Kayla for her patience, her temperament, and her approach to communicating with her.
