Kayla stayed with us beyond her shift to make sure we were okay and explained everything to our next nurse.
M went to her regular check-up for our baby. During the appointment, her blood pressure readings were dangerously high and she was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. During the evening and early morning hours, M underwent a variety of tests to better understand what was happening. She was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and we were informed that our pregnancy was not going to have the happy and joyous ending that we had been looking forward to.

Everyone was incredibly thoughtful and empathetic explaining our situation to us. We waited for another day to see what our plan of care would be. On Wednesday we met Kayla. She was sincere, empathetic, and kind treating M and caring for her. On Wednesday evening Kayla was with us during our most difficult moment, learning that our son had passed away in the womb. She stayed with us beyond her shift to make sure we were okay and explained everything to our next nurse. She held my wife's hand while we mourned the loss of our son. M says, "Kayla was so supportive, holding me and talking to me to comfort me during this time. I will never forget her kindness as we all cried together."

Kayla - we cannot express enough how much we appreciate you. You are a beautiful and kind soul. We thank God that you were with us.
