S is our 23-year-old special needs daughter. She was admitted with pneumonia. Kayla had S for two night shifts. Kayla was an extraordinary caregiver. Kayla noticed we were draining S’s stomach in a regular plastic sandwich bag. She spent two days looking and working on a solution. She talked to the supply chain as well as colleagues. She finally found a bag that worked with her extension tube. No more leaks! This is the type of “grit” that makes her an awesome nurse.

Additionally, she’s very caring and a great listener. She was very attentive to large swings in S’s blood pressure. Kayla demonstrated poise under pressure (pun intended) when her pressure dipped. Kayla called the doctors and explained the situation to me in easy-to-understand terms. This happened both nights, and she was very professional.

Finally, Kayla understood the need for rest for S. I swear she must be a part-time ninja. Kayla went about her job tasks quietly, always putting S first. Kayla is one of the reasons Froedtert has a great reputation, and we travel an hour to have this type of care for our cute but complex daughter. We are thankful for Kayla’s efforts.
