Kayla Kimball, RN
It’s taken a while for me to get around to this, but my husband and I wanted to make sure that we nominated Kayla for this award because of how incredibly well she has taken care of our son and us on more than one occasion.
In the last two years, he has had several ED visits and two life-flight trips from Bangor to Boston. On some of our toughest days, she had the competence to get done what needed to be done swiftly and was also so kind and understanding.
I know how hard it can be in critical care environments to maintain a soft demeanor, but she has always been able to do that for our son in stressful situations. In a chronically chaotic environment, she always found time to check in, ask if she could help with anything, get small toy rewards for procedures, and even got me a pair of sweatpants on a night he had been sick all over my pants.
It’s also a plus that she can always get an IV on the first try.
We have encountered a lot of healthcare, rurally and in tertiary facilities, and she’s hands down one of the best nurses we have known. When I say that we cross our fingers each time we go in that she will be working, I am not kidding.
I also know how hard she has worked to get where she is. I worked at EMMC previously, and she was an ED tech at that time and has always been a great person, but I believe that, as a nurse, she is really serving a bigger purpose for patients and families.
We can’t thank her enough.
