There are no words to describe the caliber of care the entire staff provided my son at the Piedmont Jasper ED, which gave him a fighting chance. They were efficient and quick with their lifesaving interventions. Kayla’s diligence and commitment to getting my son to Piedmont Atlanta as quickly as possible for a fighting chance at ECMO were extraordinary, despite the weather and transport shortage. She, without hesitation, stayed well past her 12-hour night shift and transported my 18-year-old son with Pickens EMS, as there were no ACLS trucks or airflight available. As a critical care ED nurse myself, I know my son wouldn’t still be here today if Kayla hadn’t gone above and beyond. As a mother, there are no words for how grateful I am to her and all the staff.
