Kayla is a nurse who often goes above and beyond the description of her job. Since I began working with her earlier this year, I have seen her stay much later than 5:00pm in order to make sure her patients get the best care possible. Even in the most difficult situations, she rises above the challenges of her position. A large part of the nursing job in Cardiology involves calling patients with results that are less than pleasant, and can oftentimes entail some pretty anxiety-inducing news. While many other nurses can be heard grumbling about the tediousness of this task, Kayla never does. In fact, I have been lucky enough to witness her treat these tearful and fear-filled patients with the ultimate respect and kindness, even when it takes longer then what is probably considered "convenient." It is truly a blessing for me to work with Kayla Newsome. She is not only an incredible team player, but an amazing example of what caring & compassionate nursing looks like.
