Kayla's nominator said, "I can honestly say that Kayla Tipton, RN, made a suggestion that night that saved a young woman's life and she is definitely the definition of an Extraordinary Nurse." He went on about Kayla's role during this special event, saying, that Kayla not only mentioned the thought of ECMO for this patient, but she also coordinated the process in getting everyone involved to work as a team. He praised the Baptist Health ED staff for their teamwork, as well as told the patient's family of Tipton's recognition for the need for ECMO and initiation of the procedure increased the woman's chances for survival.
The young woman whom Kayla helped save that night could not remember many of the details from that night, but after she woke up in the ICU 10 days later, she called to thank Kayla. The patient, a former coworker, also shared, "It was not uncommon to hear her name in various areas of the hospital, people always would say how great she was, always going that extra mile to help others."
