While I was a patient in St. Vincent's Ortho Unit, I considered all of my nurses to be "guardian angels". All of them provided superb nursing care throughout my visit. However, Kayla's focus went "over and above" the call of duty.
Whenever she gently entered my room, Kayla's eye contact, body language, smile, and general countenance said, "I'm all yours!" Her listening skills and obvious anticipation of whatever I might need or want were consistently sharp, even at the end of her shifts.
Just prior to my discharge, I told Kayla how frustrated I had been during a conversation with my surgeon's assistant regarding the medications I would be taking after going home. I felt his professionalism and communication skills fell short of the quality exhibited by his peers. To me, never directly answering my questions. Not only was Kayla empathetic and patient, but she also took it upon herself to provide me with a large, hand-drawn illustration that cleared up my confusion.
Kayla represents your medical team extremely well. She's a keeper!
