May 2023 Honoree
Kayleen Brandon, LVN-Cert
We had a difficult patient on our unit for many days and Kayleen Brandon formed a special bond with her. When this patient transferred to other units in the hospital, Kayleen continued to visit her, sit and talk to her, and do her hair. Kayleen bought this patient food, shampoo/conditioner, and small entertainment items to keep her busy and pampered during her hospital stay. The patient's baseline is typically angry and yelling at staff, but Kayleen was always able to calm her down and help her become agreeable to care. Nurses on the floor would see Kayleen's rapport with this patient and ask her to return to visit the patient. This is what nursing is all about. Kayleen took care of the "whole patient" and continued to care for her even after the patient was no longer in her department.
Thank you, Kayleen, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
