I remember Keith was waiting for me when I got into the operating room. I remember he made a connection with me immediately. He told me his name and said, "everything is going to be great and I will hold your hand the whole time." I remember immediately feeling relaxed and calm. I could see his smile through his mask and the sparkle in his eye. I don't remember much after that.
After my surgery, Keith sought me out and asked how I was. This was so special because not many people remember who was in the OR with them. For some reason, I do remember him. He was there for me and surgery nurses do not get a lot of praise because they are the silent caretakers.
