My story starts with a routine laparoscopic sigmoid colon resection that resulted in me being sent to the 7th-floor Post-Surgical area after surgery for observation and eventual release from the hospital. I started to bleed internally and had to be transferred to the post-surgical Intensive Care Unit on the 3rd floor. In less than 24 hours from surgery, my blood pressure had started to fall dangerously low and my vital signs reached a critical level. I found myself in the ICU. Keith professionally and competently took care of my medical and emotional needs, and more than anything else gave me comfort and confidence that everything would eventually be all right. He was sincere, capable, competent, caring, and had my best interest at heart. For a nurse to have both competence and compassion, is a unique gift. We found this in Keith. I was actually sad to leave his care. I, along with my family, will always be grateful to him.
